awarded valuable scholarship
The Tatler, November 2003
A talented Ngaruawahia
High School student has been
awarded a $4,000 scholarship.
Seventeen year old Gareth
Dean has been awarded the
David Johnstone Scholarship to
go towards tertiary study.
Gareth is in his final year at
school before he sets his sights on
a BSc Tech degree at Waikato
University.
Gareth, who is quite at
home in a science lab, has always
had a passion for science.
“Pretty much from the word
go I have been interested in the
sciences, most particularly
chemistry.” he says.
Gareth says he was very
surprised to hear he had won the
scholarship.
“Our careers teacher told
me a couple of weeks before I
was given the scholarship. It was
a complete surprise to me. I
didn’t even know I was eligible.”
