Ngaruawahia High School Swimming Sports 1982
10th March, 1982
There were many high-lights this
year amongst which were the setting of
ten new records and the equalling of
another.
Jan Plummer and Ma Simeon
vided neck and neck in the Intermediate
Girls 3 length breaststroke, touched
together and were credited with joint
ownership of the new time of 95.0
seconds, slashing 3.6 seconds off the old
record.
Newcastle Two, anchored
Maurice Kaio, took 3.0 seconds off the
House Group relay record
Newcastle Four also swimming under
the old time.
Craig Durham set two new marks
in the Boys Open 1 Length Butterfly
(22.2s) and in the Junior Boys Medley
(87.6s) and also took out the Junior
Championships.

Webb & C. Gould.
• Intermediate Girls: 1st J. Plummer,
2nd M. Simeon, 3rd C. Prendergast.
• Senior Girls: 1st D. Turton, 2nd J.
Owens, 3rd A. Matthews.
• Junior Boys: 1st C. Durham, 2nd J.
Barlow, 3rd S. McRoberts & G.
Gerney.
• Intermediate Boys: 1st C. McRoberts,
2nd T. White, 3rd D. Griffiths.
• Senior Boys: 1st R. Connolly, 2nd J.
West, 3rd A. Haultain & P. Lornie.
House Groups:
Stiff competition was experienced
between many of the House Groups. The
old rivalry between T4 and N4 sprang up
again with N2 and H1 joining in the race
for top Group.
Participation and performance
counted with Po’s pack (T4) touching
ahead of Mac’s Mob (N4) by 112 points
to 96. Phillip’s Fliers (N2) just pipped
out Cargo’s Clutch (H1) for the minor
placings by 93 points to 90.
by Other Groups worthy of mention in
their efforts were Crawford’s Kids of T6
with (77), Seveltj’s Sinners of M5 with 70
points and Walsh’s Waterbabies of H6
with 68 points.
House Competition:
1981 Champions Tainui took an
early slender lead of 11 points in the first
day of the Meet but the splashing start in
Day Two when there was often less than
7 points between Tainui and Newcastle
during progress results during the day.
It was through the Senior boys of
Raymond Connolly, Andrew Haultain,
Justin West and Trevor Young that
Newcastle drew convincingly ahead to
take out the first of many competitions
with 312 points, Tainui gaining 277,
Havelock 246 and Maniapoto 184.
Staff v Students:
The Students “A” team defeated the
Staff “A” team by two seconds in their
annual relay with Students “B”, Staff
“B” and Staff “C” following in order.
