Howard Morrison Quartet 1979
Tracey Cathro remembers about 44 years
ago all of the senior students of Ngaruawahia High
got to spend time rehearsing, then performing with
the Howard Morrison Quartet.
We had a noho marae at Turangawaewae and
practiced several songs. We were going to be on
TV!
On the day of the performance we all got
shouted a lemonade ice-block and Sir Howard said
“It makes you sing even better!” I ate every word.
On the day/night of the performance I felt
like a true-blue movie star. I sung my little heart
out and will remember it forever!
The “Banana Boat” song along with one I
have never forgotten - an Elvis Presley song
“Wise Men Say”: I roto I te reo Maaori. It was so
beautiful.
