senior student Alisha was set up by the industry training organization
Campbell’s spark is ETITO* to foster interest and talent in careers in
gleaming white hot! the hi-tech and electrotechnology arenas.
                               The 17 year-old recently won
first-equal with Onehunga High School student * Electro Technology Industry Training Organisation
Kapil Dev Sharma in the NCET category of Bright
         Sparks Awards,
Alisha impressed the Bright Sparks judges
with an innovative electronic toy based on the
traditional cowboy shoot-out, but with a modern
twist. “Cowboy Shoot-out” has sensors which
detect the beam from a key-chain laser pointer. You
have to hit one of the sensors as the Cowboy draws
         to record a score.
“I wanted to create something fun for all ages
to enjoy - and it intrigued me to try and build a
         shoot-out game,” Alisha said.
“I am very impressed with my final project
and hope that one day I can make more of the
Cowboy Shoot-out game. I want to make it go
         global.”
              Fellow student Adrian Humphries came
         third in the same category.
An electronic whizz-kid, Adrian used his
skills to convert an old computer mouse into a
pocket-held drum machine. Simply push the button
on the mouse and the beat flows.
Both students will finish school this year and
are looking into their career prospects. Alisha is
going to pursue a joinery course at WinTech while
Adrian said he would love to enroll in an
         electronics or IT course.
                                                                               Cowboy Shoot-out
